Bobby Petrino on returning to Arkansas: ‘Proud to be coming home’

Bobby Petrino posted on social media Wednesday he is “proud to be coming home” as the offensive coordinator at Arkansas.

Multiple reports on Tuesday had Petrino, 62, returning to Fayetteville under Sam Pittman, and Petrino’s post on “X,” the social media platform formerly known as Twitter confirmed it.

Petrino, who was the head coach at Arkansas from 2008-2011, posted a picture of he and former Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett, who died after drowning off the coast of Destin in June at the age of 35.

Petrino spent this past season as offensive coordinator at Texas A&M, but head coach Jimbo Fisher was fired earlier this month.

He was 34-17 2008-11 at Arkansas before it was revealed that Petrino had an affair with an athletic department staffer. Petrino was hired as Western Kentucky’s coach ahead of the 2013 season where he spent a season before returning to his first coaching job at Louisville.

The Razorbacks finished the season 4-8, but athletic director Hunter Yurachek announced before the final game of the season that coach Sam Pittman would return in 2024.
